Prod date: 9/24/2002 (a Tuesday)

Title: Clean, in hand

I bought this car in 11/2009 with around 70k miles on it, and drove it daily until ~3 years ago. It’s been a backup daily driver a few times when the other cars were out of commission for one reason or another, and the occasional weekend trip.

It’s a 5 speed MT, the actual mileage is 135,900, and going up occasionally as I drive it here and there – ~70 miles over the last 3 months.

More pics available on request.

The good

– 136k miles is pretty low for an 03, engine runs strong. I’ve only put about 4k on over the last 3 years.
– New clutch at 110k
– New fuel filter at 115k
– New alternator and oil filter housing gasket at 120k (done together since they’re in the same area)
– New battery in 2015 at around 120k as well.
– New radiator, hoses, expansion tank, around 115k. Water pump was replaced at around 90k and needs replaced again soon (new pump included w/sale).
– New upper+lower intake boots and heater core hoses around 110k. Intake, MAF (stock), and throttle body cleaned out
– Boston leather in okay shape for the most part (driver seat is a little rough)
– Wheels in great shape with new tires (tires replaced in 2015, around 7/32+ tread on all). Minor curbing on a couple but they look good.
– HK speakers
– Window actuators and sunroof all work great, including the rears.
– Anti theft antenna ring around the ignition replaced at 132k in 2016
– New driver door lock cylinder hardware
– New front bumper cover, kidney grilles, front passenger fender, and passenger side control arm after a fender bender in 2014. this was done very well by the insurance co. No tracking/alignment issues, and you can’t even tell it was replaced.
– New front tie rods done by the shop in 2014 when the control arm was replaced (~115k)
– Dashboard cluster was repaired in 2016 as it stopped powering on suddenly one day. Car was not driven when cluster was broken.
– Xenon HID headlights (new driver side ballast included w/sale)
– EBC Redstuff brake pads in front, regular ceramics in back, new rotors, all around 115k. Haven’t measured them since, but they brake strong. May need replaced in ~10k miles or so.
– Oil changed every 10k miles (indicator on dash says to go 15)
– External temperature sensor replaced at 135k miles (2019)
– Vanos and CCV are in good condition

The bad

Cosmetic
– Tiny paint chips on the exterior roof, hood, and trunk, from tree sap. Hardly noticeable unless you’re on top of the car looking at it
– The paint on one side of the roof rack mount (metal) is peeling off, should be easy to fix.
– A couple of small rips in the driver seat leather
– Headliner is falling off
– Rubber seals around the rear passenger windows need to be replaced. Water doesn’t leak in during rain or when I hand washed, but would likely leak in an automatic car wash.
– Center armrest plastic is broken, so the armrest detaches from the center console easily. New replacement armrest with good plastic and leather included w/sale.
– Remote lock/unlock doesn’t work on the key fobs – these are diamond keys where you can’t self-replace the batteries, so I’m not sure if the keys are dead, the antenna in the car is dead, or both. No code though so I assume it’s the keys. As-is, doors work fine with the key manually.
– Center console/ashtray is a little scratched up.
– Steering wheel leather is in rough shape, so I have a cover on it (cover included w/sale).

Mechanical
– Water pump is seeping, and needs replaced. Doesn’t leak badly now but new AC Delco pump is included w/sale.
– Oil pan gasket has a minor leak (confirmed by shop). It needs a new quart of oil approx. every 2000 miles.
– Subframe bushings also need replaced (new bushings included w/sale)
– Takata airbags need replaced by BMW under recall
– There is 1 CEL/SES code: P0444 (evap purge control valve). Gas cap was replaced and code was cleared, but it came back. Acceleration is normal/good.”

From us:

We like how much detail the owner provided us for the ad. The light on the dash does give us some hesitation so we’d take it to a reputable bmw shop for the PPI. Oh yeah, definitely get that carfax.
